Pay Range: $18 - $26 per hour

Our extensive range of tests and troubleshooting procedures plays a crucial role in the seamless activation of equipment on networks ranging from 10Gb/s to 800Gb/s.

 

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safety is our top priority at Connect USA. Adhere to safe work practices and comply with company and client site policies.

  • Uphold and promote our core values, fostering a family-centric culture.

  • Proficiently install structured cabling systems, covering all stages of the installation process: OSP, ISP, rack, stack, patch, fusion splicing, testing.

  • Interpret floor plans, drawings, specifications, and cut sheets accurately.

  • Conduct fiber testing and troubleshooting as needed.

  • Terminate, label, test, and troubleshoot optical fiber installations.

  • Support the development of installers to carry out technician tasks and responsibilities.

  • Proactively manage job site organization and basic maintenance.

  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.

  • Ensure compliance with customer security requirements.

  • Excel in technical tasks, including testing and troubleshooting.

  • Willingness to travel is a requirement.

 

Desired Experience:

  • Previous experience in Fiber Characterization Testing, including proficiency in conducting the following tests:

  • Optical Return Loss (ORL)

  • Power Meter and Light Source

  • Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR)

  • Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD)

  • Chromatic Dispersion (CD)

  • Strong ability to interpret and analyze test results for troubleshooting fiber networks.

  • Familiarity with structured cabling systems and terminations.

  • Hands-on experience with fiber optic test equipment.

  • Knowledge of industry-standard codes, practices, and protocols related to fiber characterization.

  • Demonstrated capability to excel in technical tasks, such as testing and troubleshooting.

 

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic aligned with Connect USA’s core values.

  • Team player embodying Connect USA’s values of accountability, collaboration, integrity, and respect.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and effective communication (written and oral).

  • Thorough understanding of structured cabling systems, including applicable codes, standards, and best practices.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook.

  • Capable of selecting the appropriate tools and methodologies for specific tasks.

  • Quick learner under the guidance of senior team members.

  • Attentive to instructions and possesses excellent teamwork skills.

  • Positive attitude, high attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Proficient in reading tape measures and discerning color codes.

  • Must meet Connect USA’s driving standards policy.

 

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

This position primarily operates in an indoor telecommunications POP and construction environment. It involves computer use and/or hand tool operation while standing or sitting for extended periods. The noise level is moderate. The role requires regular sitting, talking, hearing, using hands, stooping, kneeling, bending, rotating, pushing, pulling, and reaching. Frequent standing and walking are also necessary. Lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds is required regularly, and up to 25 pounds frequently. Climbing ladders up to 20 feet and working in confined spaces may be necessary. Regular and punctual attendance is essential. travel will be required to various locations within the United States, either by vehicle or flight, as the job demands.
